Birdsong & Borders | Video & Set Designer

Birdsong & Borders is a collaboration between performer Merit Ariane Stephanos, writer Octavia Bright and myself. I worked as video and set designer on the project and we developed the show with support by Help Musicians Fusion Fund and it was performed at LSO St Luke’s in summer 2019. Birdsong & Borders features a pyramid frame that I designed with set builder Brett Cox, taking the form of an abstract bird cage as a starting point and echoing the jagged forms of the Aviary at London Zoo. This structure forms a triangular projection surface for footage shot in London, Cornwall and Setúbal, Portugal, featuring the imagined homes of each bird as it appears alongside projections of dancer Hannah Moore, who plays with the characterful movement of the birds in her choreography.
